Niagara - not observed, but not much ice below 8k and the falls are below 6k
Chipmunk Area - poor conditions around 8k. At just under 9k, on the rock formation well up and left from "Run for your Life" is a 60' or so seep over rock. Nothing continuous, but I had never seen it come in before.
Volcanic side, one solid blue section formed up down low between two snow fields. Looked mostly low angle. None of the usual spring "ice" runnels or waterfalls were in. Very dry.
At 9k, near the Marmot Boulders, were 3 different seeps in the creek bed facing west. They looked solid at 8am 12.28 when temp was 20F night before. Short, but covenient. Unclear what anchor situation is, but look from road.
Sonora Pass Palisade (my name, since I don't know any other history of these except ours from 2007) - In, fat, and good early am, when temps hit 20F the night before on 12/28. WI2 to WI3 if you push some small curtains.
Recessed Palisade (again my name) - Looked in condition when viewed from road on 12.28.
Sardine Falls - Viewed from 108, ice was present top to bottom, but of unknown consistency. Normally this fall requires temps in the teens the prior night and an early start.
Leavit Falls (I was calling it "Leave it" falls as in leave it alone) - Bottom section was NOT in any shape to climb. A thin gauze of ice was a veil over the VERY running water. The middle section was looking melty and just so so. Risky at best. The upper recessed section was in deep shade and looked pretty reasonable for a recon on the next trip. Trees look available to run a mini trax from for the upper section if you can cross the creek.

I was on the east side last week (got to crag at Gong Show - Sooooo nice) and sat in the hot tubs... Got up the next morning and the temps from 2am read.... 19 degrees..... I poured my water for AM coffee and as I turned around to search for my lighter I saw my water actually starting to crystalize into ice.

definitely warmer now, but this weekend is looking GOOOD with an extra o Good.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 21.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38.
Saturday Night: Clear, with a low around 17.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 41.
early start Saturday at the Pass. Sunday we can sleep in an extra 20 minutes.

The Recessed Palisade: Dingus motoring, you can tell he's been on ice before. He doesn't bash his way up. He leverages natural features and stays low in his heels.  |
